Bur Oak (Quercus macrocarpa)

$5.99

Bur oak is an adaptable tree within the white oak group.  Named for its notably large acorns wrapped in a bur-like cap, it’s easily distinguishable from other oaks.  They contain massive root systems underground making them desirable in savannah and prairie type habitats.  Due to their large root systems, its best to plant them apart from other bur oaks and preferentially, in open areas with less root competition.  Native from Texas to Manitoba and Nova Scotia to Pennsylvania, the bur oak is able to thrive in both warm and cold climates.
