$25.99$93.99

Buckwheat for wildlife, soil building, and habitat improvement.  This rapid growing broadleaf plant suppresses weed competition, produces an array of pollinating flowers, and offers 15-25% crude protein levels to wildlife.

Overview

Buckwheat is a versatile and nutritious crop that can help attract and sustain wildlife in food plots. Our premium buckwheat seeds are selected for their quality and yield and can be planted in a range of soil types and climates. Buckwheat is easy to grow and matures quickly, making it a great planting option for hunters, farmers, and conservationists. With its high protein (15-25%) and nutrient content, buckwheat can also help improve soil health and build organic matter Whether you’re looking to enhance your hunting or simply enjoy the benefits of a thriving ecosystem, our buckwheat seeds are a smart choice for any wildlife enthusiast.

Buckwheat is commonly planted as a monoculture in the summer as a weed suppression smother crop due to its fast growth, height, and broad stemmy leaves.  It is often terminated late summer with either herbicide or tilling to recycle nutrients prior to planting a fall food plot blend.  Buckwheat is not cold hardy and will die after the first frost.  Typically, buckwheat should be terminated 6-8 weeks after planting to avoid producing seed heads that reseed the food plot.

Buckwheat can also be mixed in seed blends as a soil builder in summer and fall blends.  As previously mentioned, frost will kill buckwheat so plant other frost hardy seeds with it if the intended use of the food plot is for hunting after the first frost of the fall season.
