Blight Resistant Chestnuts (Castanea mollisssima/hybrids)

$9.99

Chestnut trees are a great source of nutrition for wildlife offering approximately 43 calories, 10 grams carbohydrates, nearly 1 gram of protein, and various quantities of other micronutrients per ounce (1-2 nuts).  These nutrient packed nuts are highly attractive to wildlife and often begin producing nuts between 3-5 years depending on the site conditions.  This variety is a cross between American and Chinese types, meaning they are blight resistant and offer the favorable taste and nutritional properties of each.  Our chestnut trees are grown from hand selected chestnuts from time-tested parent trees in Virginia that have survived colder winters and proven to be heartier than trees from the south.  Chestnut trees prefer well-drained sites but are adaptable to sites with varying soil conditions.  Chestnut trees do not prefer wet areas.  For wet areas, we recommend our Swamp White Oak and Willow Oak trees.
