White Oak (Quercus alba)

$5.99

White oak acorns are highly preferential among wildlife as a fall forage food.  Studies have shown wildlife prefer the taste of white oak acorns due to the lesser quantity of tannins found within the nut, making them taste less bitter than red oak counterparts.  In the northern portions of the United States, acorns often begin dropping mid-September into early November.  Southern portions have reported acorns beginning to drop in early October.  When white oaks are dropping acorns, wildlife key in on them as food sources and many deer hunters have success sitting white oak flats in early season.
